The purpose of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 "POPI Act", is to promote the protection of personal information processed by public and private organizations, establishing minimum requirements. The POPI Act aims to provide the citizens with the rights and remedies to protect their personal information against unlawful collection, retention, dissemination and use and to regulate the flow of personal information across the borders of the Republic of South Africa.
